Every year we run the Triangle Moms on Main Choice Awards. We come to you to get your votes on the best resources in the Triangle. Yet while we include rainy day destinations we don't talk much about parks and playgrounds. So let's chat about the best outdoor spots for you and your family. Especially since this mom in particular is ready for spring days.... Read More

Resolution #2: Organize Family Memories
by Allison Carter
We're still talking about New Year's Resolutions today. Let's tackle
organizing your family photos. If you are anything like us we take a
lot of photos. Afterall, our kids are growing up so fast and we'll
never get these days back. It is natural to want to capture every
minute of the fleeting time. It is also natural to stick all of those
photos on my hard drive and never look at them again.

A Thankful 30 Days
by Kristen Bagwell
Last year, I felt like I was the only one who had not heard about "30 Days of Thanks" thing...even as an avid blogger and blog reader, I had no idea what this November / thankful-every-day thing was all about. I kept seeing Facebook status updates saying "today I am thankful for my _____" and was like, what in the world are my friends doing? (Clearly they are nicer people than I am, or at least more self-aware.) Read More

Just one thing...
by Kristen Bagwell
I was flying back from a business meeting yesterday and picked up the SkyMall magazine to see what cool, nifty items I "needed" to buy. One sappy plaque jumped out at me. If I could leave my kids a great saying to go through life (besides the normal parental, spiritual, character, and other guidance, of course), this would not be a bad one. Read More

Hooray for Hollywood!
by Kristen Bagwell

Last night, I had finally gotten everyone into bed (everyone = dog, daughter, husband) and was just settling down after cleaning up a bit. Of course I was in front of the TV with my cheezits and there was not one thing I remotely wanted to watch. Nothing, that is, until I noticed one of my all-time favorites playing on some obscure channel in the 500s. Hello, Sixteen Candles! Read More
Read all about it
by Kristen Bagwell

Ok ladies, I need your help...we are only halfway through summer, and somehow I am fully done with my reading list! (You may be thinking "wow, how lucky that she has so much time to read" but I am an insomniac lately, and that's what I do when I can't sleep.) This is a question I always love asking - what are your recommendations for my summer reading list #2? Oldies, new books - I will try anything at this point. Read More
Choice Award Winner: Marbles Kids Museum
by Kristen Bagwell

When someone asks “What’s your favorite way to spend the day with your child in Raleigh?” how do you respond? Without a doubt, I’d recommend a visit to Marbles Kids Museum. Clearly, many of you agree – Marbles won TWO Choice Awards!
In addition to winning the Choice Award for the Triangle’s Best Children’s Museum, our area moms also voted Marbles as the Best Place to hold a Child’s Birthday Party. When they say “so much to do” they are not kidding! But we’ll talk about that in a minute…For those of you who have not yet discovered all of the wonders of Marbles, let’s get you caught up. Day Trip Idea: City of Winston-Salem
by Katie Moosbrugger
You can live 15 minutes away, 45 minutes away, or within walking distance to downtown and there is always something in Winston-Salem worth visiting time and time again. I've only lived in this beautiful city for less than six years and my family and I are constantly discovering new things to do or to see. I love having friends and family come visit so we can show off our city. The influence of history, culture and arts, along with its appeal to families with children of any age, makes Winston-Salem a fantastic place for a day trip. Winston-Salem is an easy 107 miles from Raleigh, straight on I-40 west and follow the signs. Read More
Plan your next vacation to the Outer Banks with Twiddy
by Rachel Hoeing, Triad MOM
I have a large extended family, and we love to spend many holidays and vacations together. One of my favorite memories was the first trip we took to Duck, NC with about twenty of us. We rented a beautiful house in the Four Seasons neighborhood and stayed an entire week. My mom reminded me that it was a beautiful summer that year, but the week we chose, it decided to rain almost the entire length of the trip. Surprisingly I did not even remember the bad weather because we had such a good time!
We rented our home through Twiddy. It was a shot in the dark since we had never used their business before, nor had we ever been to the Outer Banks. I am happy to say that this company well exceeded our expectations. This was eight years ago, and my family has continued to rent from them every year since then! Read More
5pm Fab Find - Free Gift from the Happy Magpie!
by Kristen Bagwell

In Chinese and Korean cultures the magpie is called the “bird of joy” and “happy magpie”, and is considered a symbol of happiness and good fortune. It is believed that chattering magpies deliver good news and the arrival of cherished guests. What better way to welcome a new baby? To celebrate, the Happy Magpie is offering one of their high-quality, organic t-shirts to a lucky TMOM reader.
The Happy Magpie was founded on the "peanut butter and jelly" or "milk and cookies" concept... as in, what goes better together? Our twist on that harmonizing question... "motherhood and organic" - make the perfect pair. The Happy Magpie's purpose is to offer pregnant mothers and babies a stylish, comfortable and afforable option for a more healthy and natural lifestyle. We're inspired by mothers helping Mother Nature for the next generation. Read More

Mama Needs a New Pair of Shoes
by Shannon Ford

I love a great pair of heels. They definitely help in elongating my petite frame; however, with a rambunctious 14 month old, they are not always the practical choice in my closet. I have been in search of the perfect flat that can go from day to night…and did I mention withstand the elements…or at least rain? I have a number of cute flats that are adorable…in tweed, silk, etc. But if it rains, I want to go barefoot in order to save my shoes! Read More
What the heck is a prebike?
by Kristen Bagwell

As I was debating birthday gifts for my almost-3 year old, I stumbled across this link while shopping online: www.stridersports.com
What’s the big deal? Well, if you have a child under age five, listen up, because this may be the most interesting concept I’ve ever heard as far as bike riding goes. Strider Sports produces a nifty little bike they call a pre-bike and get this: it has no pedals. What? Crazy! But the whole thing is based upon teaching your child balance and control before they have to figure out how to pedal the bike. Read More
Favorite Find: Laptop Lunches
by Kristen Bagwell
One of my girlfriends told me last week that her daughter’s school has a “green” policy as it relates to kids’ lunches, meaning that kids are not allowed to bring Ziploc bags, paper lunch bags or even paper napkins to school. I was floored until I remembered that this is how we did things back when I was in school. Who didn’t have a Muppets (or Holly Hobbie or Snoopy or Star Wars) lunch box, complete with thermos? And for many of us, the sandwiches and snacks were packed in Tupperware containers inside the clanky metal Scooby Doo lunchbox…remember? Read More

Favorite Find: All Modern Baby.com
By Guest Blogger Barbie Pilla
A few months ago, www.AllModernBaby.com contacted us and asked if we could do a review of some of their products. Since most of their products are geared towards infants and toddlers (and our children are older than that), we asked loyal reader Barbie P (mother to a three-year-old and a seven-month-old) to seek out some fun items, try them out with her daughters, and write about her experiences. Here's what she had to say! - KM Read More

I am proud to introduce to you an amazing mom who has created a quality product and a quickly growing company, Debby Yennaco. In 2007, Debby Yennaco's 5 year old son, Aidan asked her how to spell the word "Bug". Quickly she created a design to show her son how to spell in a unique and creative manner. Shortly thereafter, Debby created her first Namimal creation by turning Aidan's name into a dinosaur. Debby loved her creation and Aidan LOVED it even more! Instantly, Debby knew she had a HUGE IDEA! lit'l desi9s has created over 3,000 names into a whole collection of inspired designs…Debby artfully arranges the letters of a child’s first or last name (even dog names) to create absolutely adorable animals, fairies, princesses, and automobile designs. In doing so, she captures the imagination and sparks the creativity of children and parents alike. Read More
