It's Almost Time for Strawberries!
by Kristen Bagwell

April in North Carolina means lots of things, but one of my favorites is strawberry picking. Strawberry season is officially mid-April through the end of May, but many of the farms will have berries through mid-June. Check with your chosen berry patch to make sure their berries are ready for you, and then head on out!
Incidentally, the listings with a * have been reviewed in more detail by Allison and her Mom in Chapel Hill team. If you want some more scoop on those locations, head over to www.mominchapelhillnc.com and click on "By Resource" and then "Farmers Marketings." Also, if you live in Wake County, there are some further-afield locations listed here. Read More
Celebrate Earth Day this month!
by Kristen Bagwell

Did you know that this year marks the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day? From the Earth Day Network:
The first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed. Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network (EDN) works with over 22,000 partners in 192 countries to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
Earth Day is "officially" Monday April 22, but there are many local activities starting as soon as this weekend! Read on to find out what's going on in your area. Read More
Thinking of starting your own blog?
by Kristen Bagwell

Do you love blogs like we love blogs? Since the Moms on Main got together a few years ago, we've been amazed by all of the mommy blogs out there, both locally and all over the world.
Of course, my blogging pals and I think everyone should have a blog if they want one, but it's a little intimidating to get started. The key to beginning is to know what your purpose will be. Are you blogging to simply record your own or your family's adventures? Are you trying to start a small business via the blogosphere? Do you have your own business and want to blog as an online supplement to that? Or do you just need a place to stick all of your scrapbook photos and craft ideas? Read More
Easter Bunny's on a Diet
by Allison Carter
All over town grocery stores, convenience stores, and Target (you know, all the places I shop these days) are informing me that it is time to start thinking about Easter baskets for my boys. Yet does anyone else feel like their children still haven't come down from the sugar high that is Valentine's Day yet? And am I the only parent out there whose children still have Christmas toys from relatives untouched? So what's an Easter bunny to do that is classy, healthy, useful, and not junk?

Remember Mad Libs?
by Kristen Bagwell

Do you remember Mad Libs? When we were young, this was the best car trip game ever...basically, a story or paragraph with a bunch of blanks where you fill in nouns, verbs, and adjectives. (Now that I think about it, we could probably make our own mad libs...maybe I will get around to that.) Anyway, I mention them because last week, Mad Libs saved our date night. I am serious!

Have a Spa Day at Home!
by Kristen Bagwell
So this post started as a "great idea!" but did not end quite that way...I had been reading through a few magazines and noting some of the "pamper yourself at home" topics. You know, yogurt + honey + oatmeal facial, warm water with a few drops of essential oil to soften your feet before home pedicure, etc. Of course I can't just do the simple things...I have to get ambitious. Genius over here opted for the at-home body wrap. How'd it go?
Please don't try this at home. Read More

Fun Valentine's Day Ideas
by Kristen Bagwell

Valentine's Day was always one of my favorite holidays when I was growing up, mainly because of the food. Frosted sugar cookies, candy hearts, chocolates..the list goes on. I used to love coming down to breakfast on Valentine's Day to find a card and a little treat from my parents. They did a great job making us feel special, even through our teen years when we were really too cool to bother with such things. Read More
I Heart You
by Kristen Bagwell

My daughter came home from school yesterday with a flat brown lunch bag stapled to her school newsletter. "Don't crush it!" she said, and I could not figure out what the big deal was. When I looked later on, I found a bag full of hearts and her school newsletter explaining the master plan. As it turns out, the hearts are for my daughter. "Each time your child does something caring, write it on a heart and put it in the bag. We will share our hearts on Valentine's Day. " What a sweet way to make the kids feel special! Read More

Ever Wonder When It's the Best Time?

My husband came home with a book he received from his sister, and I literally devoured in minutes. It’s called Buy Ketchup In May and Fly at Noon: A Guide to the Best Time to Buy This, Do That and Go There by Mark Di Vincenzo. If you’ve ever wondered about the best day of the week to buy groceries, go out to dinner or put your house on the market - or best time of day to pump gas, take a pregnancy test or eat carbohydrates – you’ll find it in this book. It’s chock full of life’s random events that will help you “get more for your money, maximize your time, take better care of your health and be savvier about your career – all by doing certain things at the right time.” And every tip is backed by research and interviews done with experts – or by best-time conclusions. Gift Ideas for Teachers
by Rachel Hoeing
As we head back to school for the traditional calendar, I thought it would be fun to re-run this post from Rachel, a former teacher. Many parents like to provide a little treat for their teachers at the start of the new year...hopefully the post below will give you some inspiration. Enjoy! ~KB
Teachers might as well be the target of Donna Summer’s song “She Works Hard for the Money.” Teachers put in a full day of work inside the school walls, but also spend hours upon hours planning, grading, and assessing at home as well. We all want to show them our appreciation - even if you are low on money, a handmade card or treat from the student is always cherished. I have a few favorite gifts from all price ranges that I received throughout my years of teaching. I hope these ideas are helpful as you make your gift lists this year. Read More

Summer Day Trip: NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher
by Kristen Bagwell
Our family loves to visit the beaches of NC and SC, and ever since I-40 was extended all the way through, it's been a breeze to get there. Some days are just too hot, though, or rainy, etc etc, so today we're bringing you a new day trip spot: The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, located in Kure Beach, NC is at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. In addition to the indoor activities and exhibits, visitors can enjoy “The Waters of the Cape Fear”, as they take a journey down the Cape Fear River – from freshwater streams and swamps, to coastline habitats, reefs and the open ocean. Weekend Trip Idea: Tweetsie Railroad
by Kristen Bagwell
I am a huge fan of our NC mountains, having gone to college there <ahem> years ago. There's never a bad time to visit, but summer is particularly fun because the temperatures are 15-25 degrees lower than Raleigh on any given day. (For example, when we visited, the high in Raleigh was 89 degrees and the high in Boone was 67. JOY!)
There are so many things to do in the Boone-Blowing Rock area, but I'll stick with a family favorite: Tweetsie Railroad. We planned our visit around Thomas the Tank Engine's week-long appearance, but there are a ton of other events throughout the year to enjoy. There is an up-to-date events calendar on Tweetsie's website, and you can also sign up for their email notifications for upcoming activities. Read More

How are you celebrating July 4?
by Kristen Bagwell

Happy birthday America! There are almost as many ways to celebrate the USA's 236th birthday as there are towns and neighborhoods in the Triangle. With that said, we've compiled a pretty good events list below.
If you know of other events that should be on our list, please send us an email or leave a comment below this post. (Remember, it will take your comment a few minutes to publish online.)
One important item to note: there will not be a fireworks display at the NC State Fairgrounds this year. The fairgrounds display was actually presented by the City of Raleigh, who have opted to move their fireworks show downtown to the Convention Center area this year. (For those who have grown up going to the fairgrounds every year on July 4...doesn't this feel a little weird?)

Weekend Trip Idea: Campin' With Yogi
by guest blogger Jennifer Corbin
As soon as my youngest child was out of diapers, my husband and I decided that we were going to start camping with the kids. Our first camping trip was only for a night, to see how the kids (and the adults) handled the experience. The trip was a success and much fun was had by all - with the kids already planning our next camping trip before we left the first. However, I knew that if we were going to be camping for multiple days, a state park or normal campground was just not going to suffice for day long entertainment for the kids (or the adults really). There are only so many hikes one can take! Read More
Clever Ways to Get the Kids to Behave
By Katie Moosbrugger, TriadMOM
We literally have two weeks of summer under our belts and I'm already pulling my hair out. It's like the bickering started on cue. The dismissal bell rang on the last day of school to signify the start of summer, but really it was more like the opening bell for an all-out, summer-long boxing match that takes place in my house, in the car, at the pool - and just about every where my kids seem to spend more than five minutes together.
I know I'm not alone with this. Remember Rachel's post on this subject? What's funny is that her kids were just about the exact same ages as mine when she wrote her post (ages eight and five). And now here I am battling the same dilemma. The sad part is - I don't think this bickering will end any time soon. We just need to figure out how to manage it. So I reached out to friends, fans and Google and pulled together some out-of-the-box ways to curb the quarreling. At least we can have fun while trying. If you have other clever ideas, please share them below. Trust me, any advice is appreciated! Read More
Fifty Fun Things to do this Summer!
by Kristen Bagwell
We're early into summer days, and I can't yet see a time when going to the pool will get old. In case it does, though, we're taking a page from our sister site's book. Triad MOM posted a "50 fun things" list last week and, not to be outdone, ours is below. We have to give a shout out to Social Butterflies, 2012 Mom's Choice Award Winner Go Ask Mom, and Triangle NC Kids Club (where you can get discounts and freebies for many of these activities!) - these websites are key sources for our online events calendar. Notes from a Mom in Chapel Hill and Macaroni Kid Triangle (on Facebook) are also great resources.
I have no idea whether there are actually 50 items listed below but am assuming we're pretty close. Even so, I know there are ideas that we've missed, so please email or leave a comment below to get them added. Read More
Worry-Free Gardening With Your Kids
by Triad MOM Team Member Ashleigh Welder
Do you find yourself searching high and low all over town for the healthiest, most affordable food to feed your family? For my family, we found the solution right in our own backyard. After reading about pesticides in our foods, we explored organic options for baby food and produce.
Learning how far even this food had to travel before hitting my kids’ plates, I found myself spending more time at the local farmer’s market, which provides locally-grown, delicious produce and the opportunity for my children to meet "their" farmers. As we exposed our children to the concept of growing food versus picking it off a shelf at the grocery store, the next step was clear: a backyard garden. Read More
Weekend Trip Idea: Maggie Valley, NC
by Kristen Bagwell
We were feeling the need for a series, and what better time to feature "summer visits"? Through the end of August, Triangle MOM will be featuring both day trips and weekenders that may be of interest, all within NC. We kick off this series with one of the prettier visits in NC: Maggie Valley.
Maggie Valley is surrounded by mountain ranges in all directions, and the higher elevations mean cooler temperatures, spectacular views, and cleaner air. Maggie Valley offers numerous festivals, bluegrass music, multiple concerts, dancing, clogging, much more all throughout the year. During the spring, summer and fall seasons you can enjoy Wheels Trough Time Motorcycle Museum, and Cherokee's Santa's Land Theme Park and Zoo.
Maggie Valley is just over 4 hours from Raleigh, past Asheville but before Cullowhee, home of Western NC University. Situated in the Smoky Mountains, Maggie Valley offers tons to do and see, whether you want to get out and do, or go shopping and do, or even hang out and not-do. Stay with me - we'll go through a little of each below. Read More

Ideas from the Easter Bunny

We feel the same way, so today we're sharing ideas on how to fill an Easter basket with items your child will actually use! Rachel and I took a little shopping trip to see what we could find - and in doing so - we came up with the idea to "theme" our Easter baskets. Family Heritage

I'm a total geneaology nut, and the 1940 Census is coming out. To me, this is like waiting for the next Harry Potter book/movie to come out...or for the next iPhone (depending on your mom mode). Helping Kids Make $en$e of Money!

However, this can be difficult to explain since most children have very little understanding of money and how it works. Read More

My Super Sweet...3?
by guest blogger Kimberly Froeschner

We have arrived....As the new year dawned we were suddenly very popular on the birthday party scene. My (almost) three-year-old daughter got three birthday party invitations in just one week, which is fine except I didn't expect this until she was in kindergarten.
Based on my own life experience (which didn't include daycare), parties for 3 year olds were generally still a family thing: Mom, Dad, siblings, grandparents and maybe a few cousins would show up for cake and presents. Now it seems that birthday parties have join the ranks of other "growing up too fast" activities, like learning to read before age 3. (Before you think I'm being critical, let me just admit that I'm on that bandwagon. I won the Marbles birthday party from TMOM and I'm in high gear planning it. Although, honestly, I don't know if we'd have a party this fancy if it wasn't free.) Read More

Announcing the sex...
by Rachel Hoeing, Triad MOM
I figured if I put "sex" in the title I would grab your attention. In this post, however, I am referring to "sex" as "gender", as in the gender of your baby. (But if you really do want to read about sex, we've got some blogs here under our Couples & Marriage category!)
When I was pregnant with my children (almost nine and seven years ago), announcing the gender of the baby was not that big of a deal. Most people who decided to find out the sex during their ultrasound simply called or emailed friends to tell them the exciting news of pink or blue. Being the email junkie that I am, I am sure I sent an email to all my buddies with the subject line, "It's A ..." and then revealed the gender in the text of the email. Facebook was not around then, but I bet I would have chosen that route if it were! Read More

I neeeeeeed that!
by Kristen Bagwell

My older sister once told me that I was a marketer's dream come true. (I don't think it was a compliment.) Ironic that I am now in marketing, and also that she's completely right. Who cries every single year at the Folger's commercial where Peter makes it home just in time for Christmas morning? Me. Who has been known to get all welly at Kodak, Pampers, and even cereal commericals? Me. Who is convinced - every single time - that NutriSystem is, in fact, the answer? Me. Read More

We Have a New Calendar of Events!
by Katie Moosbrugger
We have big news on our site today....we just published a new look to our calendar of events! You all tell us how much you appreciate TMoM's easy-to-use calendar of Triangle family-friendly events, and now it's even more user-friendly - especially for busy parents who like to plan ahead.
Here's how it works. When you click on our Events page, you will see our new calendar listed on the main page. With this new calendar format, there are three ways you can now view events: by week, by month, or by "agenda".
The "Agenda" view will probably be the format you use most often. Here you can quickly glance at events happening each day - and at the time in which they occur - without having to click on a specific date. If you want to narrow your view to events happening during one specific week, you would then click the "Week" view. Likewise, if you want to view the entire month at one time, click "Month" view. You are also able to print the events in a nice "printable" form too. Read More

Best Movie Choices for Tweens
by Kristen Bagwell

It's not often that I get sucked into the Reelz Channel, but this show title caught my eye as I was flipping through the channel guide. My nephews and some family friends are tweens, and I am always at a loss as to what they are interested in, or what's "cool" at the moment. When I saw this heading, I was interested to see what Reelz had to say about current movies for tweens. What I got was actually a list of the top movies of all time ("all time" being up to 20 years ago) that Reelz thinks tweens will enjoy. It's a good list, I think - what would you add?

Woman on a Mission
by Kristen Bagwell

Have you ever considered going on a mission trip, or traveling to a community less fortunate? I have several friends who have done this in the past two years: one to Africa, one to Jamaica, one to Haiti, and one to Belize. Most recently - in fact, right this minute - one of my long-time friends is in Nepal working with Habitat for Humanity to build sustainable housing from bamboo.
Although it can be difficult to find "the right time" for a trip like this, it's absolutely amazing to consider, much less go and do. I am fascinated by the stories that my traveling friends have shared, and so I wanted to show a bit of what Amber is experiencing while she is away. After more than 24 hours of travel, her first experience was actually a 6.9-magnitude earthquake, which thankfully did not injure any of their traveling group. A rocky start seems to have led to smooth sailing, though. Here's a bit of background on how she came to choose Habitat and Nepal, and we'll follow up next week with some of her tales from the trip. What the...pregnant belly painting?
by Kristen Bagwell

This is going to be one of those posts that demonstrates how much I don't know. So, let's discuss: pregnant belly painting. Quite honestly, the first time I heard about this I laughed. Then, when I thought about it some more, I was mildly horrified. My pregnant belly has been a source of many things: joy, discomfort, amazement...but usually, entertainment and/or self-expression were not on my list.
I can't say for sure, but perhaps we have Mariah Carey to thank for the spreading of this trend. Sometime last year, dear Mariah showed a photo of her twin-baby bump painted in a butterfly design. At the time, I dismissed it as a "weird celebrity trend" and/or an "only Mariah Carey would do something like that" thing. For some reason, though, I kept hearing about it after that. In my own third trimester, I decided to google "pregnant belly painting" to see what the deal was. Read More
The Benefits of Sports for Children
By Guest Blogger Heather Bjork
September – school starting back and the start of soccer and football season. Fans of both sports are passionate in their love of these games. One does not have to look very far to spot people wearing football or soccer apparel around the Triad. Sports are an important part of most people’s lives, and they are commonly discussed at home, with friends, in the workplace, in cyber space and through any form of media that we come in contact with on a daily basis. As such, it seems we would be doing our children a disservice to not expose them to different sports and give them an opportunity to experience playing different sports.
If you have not yet provided your child with the chance to get involved in a sport, think again. Even if you are not a “sports” person yourself, there are multiple benefits to allowing your child to play sports. Read More

Blast from the Past
by Katie Moosbrugger and Rachel Hoeing
Remember the days when your mom would open the back door and say, “Go play
outside and I don’t want to see you around for the next hour.” When I think of
that, I crack up because I could not imagine saying those words today. But back then, I gladly
left the house (as young as five years old) and would walk as far as a quarter
mile to my best friend’s house down the street.
Back then no one had
fenced-in yards, hardly anyone had play sets (maybe a tree fort if they were
lucky), our parents rarely signed us up for organized sports until we were at
least middle school age, we never played video games (that is until my older
brother got Atari – but then again he never let me play it anyhow).. and all the
while I managed to have a pretty incredible childhood! Imagine that!
So before this summer is over, I thought it would be fun to
relive the games we used to play growing up – games now that are considered
“classic,” or “old-fashioned” and don’t involve electricity, activity
fees, or hundreds of dollars at the local toy store! Read More
Ways to Volunteer with your Whole Family
by Katie Moosbrugger and Kristen Bagwell
Summer is the perfect time of year to consider a volunteer project with your whole family. Not only can children learn valuable "working" skills and all about different organizations - as well as how these organizations fit within society - but kids also learn how to give back and be thankful for what they have. According to www.CompassionateKids.com, children who see their parents volunteering are much more likely to believe in the value of helping others. Plus, working alongside your kids is not only a great way to teach by example - it's also fun.
You don't have to look far to find a fun opportunity for your family. Below you'll find suggestions for kids by age, as well as links to some local organizations. Enjoy scoping out our list, and if we did not include a volunteer opportunity you know of, please add in the comments below. Read More

Day Trip Idea: Visit Burlington!
by Kristen Bagwell

Ever since the new Tanger Outlets opened, the Burlington-Mebane area has become interesting to me again. That sounds awful, doesn't it? I actually lived in Burlington for a little while after college, and it has grown by leaps and bounds since then.
Just a short 40-45 minute trip from the Triangle, there are tons of things to do and see. It's been fun getting reacquainted with this unique group of small towns, and they are just up the road! We're on our way...it's the easiest trip ever. Hop on I-40 and head west, and keep an eye out starting around exit 150. That's where the fun begins! Read More
Word Play
by Kristen Bagwell

I've been known to screw up words on purpose just for fun. For example - "not necess-celery" (although I had to stop that one after my niece started using it as her form of "necessarily." I was proud, but in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't the best idea.) There's also pro-kristen-ate, which gets used a lot as I tend to put off certain chores. My friend Michael invented "shload" which is another favorite, meaning "a LOT." (Combine sh** + load and you get shload. Genius!)
It seems that I have passed this skill to my daughter, to some extent. Her current favorite song? "Ring a ring a rosey, pocka pocka posey, ass-kiss, ass-kiss, we all fall DOWN." Guessing she didn't learn that one at school, exactly. But I digress. Read More
Day Trip Idea: NC Transportation Museum
by Katie Moosbrugger
When my two-year-old son saw a true-to-life Thomas the Tank Engine turn the corner, race towards him with a loud clackety-clack and let out an ear-piercing “Choo Choo,” I thought I might have mistakenly ended his innocent obsession with all those funny faced locomotives. Instead, it turned out to be one of the most magical moments for him. I honestly believe he thought we arrived on Sodor Island. And while he will never forget that surprise visit from Thomas, I will always cherish the priceless expression on his little face. Read More

Day 196: In Which She Completely Loses Her Mind
by Kristen Bagwell

Well, it's been coming on for about two weeks, and has finally happened: I think I've lost it. You know how you have those days when you really need to be on your game and there's just a hiccup around every corner? Pile on a double-dose of tired and a few pregnant hormones and you've got it...day 196, "In Which She Completely Loses Her Mind."
Let's discuss. After dragging myself and the mini out of bed, into the car, and to her school, I get back into the car and feel a breeze under my arm. Odd, yes? Not that odd when I notice the huge tear under the arm of my shirt. RATS! Back home for an outfit change, although I did consider trying to keep the hole tucked under my arm pit. If I had not had a meeting with my boss's boss today, I'd have worn the shirt. *I think.* This is how tired I was. Read More

The Sunday Funnies July 3, 2011

"How Did That Happen????"
My husband and I were out for the evening at dinner about 45 minutes from home, and we left our four children home with a new babysitter. About an hour into our evening, my cell phone rang. We were out in the middle of nowhere and cell phone service was horrible. My oldest son, 11 years old at the time, is on the phone. He tells me that Jack, our 9-year-old son, is choking on a marble. I try to ask if he is still choking, but the phone goes dead. Read More

If you’ve never been, this is a ticketed event showcasing non-stop blues, rock, bluegrass, folk, old time, gospel and world music; and featuring the exhibition and sale of crafts by over 100 specially-selected artists.
The Festival is also quite educational for children and adults alike. Look for EEEK! Day Trip Idea: Wrightsville Beach
by Kristen Bagwell

Wrightsville Beach is one of my favorite places in the world. When we were growing up, we always headed to Topsail Beach, and in high school we all made the requisite trips to Myrtle Beach SC. Once I hit the college years and beyond, though, it was always Wrightsville or bust.
It's actually much quicker to get to Wrightsville Beach than it used to be (for those of you who remember the trip before I-40 east was finished)...you literally get on the highway, go straight for two hours, and voila!
There are a million and one things to do in the Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach area, and you almost have to decide on your priorities before you get there. If you want to escape and do some shopping, including a leisure lunch, we can help. If you are beach bound with no exceptions, there's a plan for that too. Read on! Read More
Day Trip Idea: Homeland Creamery
by Kristen Bagwell

Have you or your kids ever toured a farm? We had wonderful family friends growing up who owned a dairy farm, but since we moved to NC, we’ve become real city slickers. (Suburb slickers? Anyway.) There are actually quite a few farms in and around the Triangle, but not many are open to visits and tours. Luckily, Homeland Creamery is nearby - just over an hour away - and has tons of things to see!
From the Homeland Creamery http://www.homelandcreamery.com/ website: “Children should have the opportunity to learn that our food (including milk) is produced on a farm and is not just a product of the local grocery store. Our goal is to make sure that your trip to our farm is a good learning experience.” Read More

I love having friends and family come visit so we can show off our city. Plan your next vacation to the Outer Banks with Twiddy
by Rachel Hoeing, Triad MOM
I have a large extended family, and we love to spend many holidays and vacations together. One of my favorite memories was the first trip we took to Duck, NC with about twenty of us. We rented a beautiful house in the Four Seasons neighborhood and stayed an entire week. My mom reminded me that it was a beautiful summer that year, but the week we chose, it decided to rain almost the entire length of the trip. Surprisingly I did not even remember the bad weather because we had such a good time!
We rented our home through Twiddy. It was a shot in the dark since we had never used their business before, nor had we ever been to the Outer Banks. I am happy to say that this company well exceeded our expectations. This was eight years ago, and my family has continued to rent from them every year since then! Read More

Royally Excited!
by Kristen Bagwell

Do you have Royal Wedding Fever? You're not the only one...earlier this week, the Washingtonian posted a blog about the celebratory events for D.C. locals to attend, and there are quite a few. It's so easy to get sucked in, with tons of press coverage, documentary-style "looking back" throughout Kate and Prince William's courtship, and even a Lifetime movie depicting their relationship in the early days. If this is not the wedding of the year, there won't be one.
I'll admit that I was surprised when the idea of "viewing parties" popped up, but got right on board with the excitement. There will be parties in the streets all over England on Friday; why not host one at your house? Here are all of the particulars so you can create your own Royal engagement at home. Read More

10 Cute Ways to Display Your Kids’ Art
By Katie Moosbrugger
Does this happen to you? Several times a week your child comes home with piles of art and other paperwork for you to adore, compliment, and select which pieces you’ll hang on the fridge. Later that evening, you sift through the entire mound of paper and decide which pieces make the cut for a future keepsake and which ones get tossed. You think you have it all figured out, and then the next morning your child discovers his masterpiece in the trash. Oops. You apologize profusely, dust off the coffee crumbs, smooth out the wrinkles, and add it to the last remaining spot on the fridge.
If this happens to you as much as it does to me, then keep reading. I discovered 10 really cute and clever ways to keep and display your child’s art without cluttering your home. Read More

What the heck is a prebike?
by Kristen Bagwell

As I was debating birthday gifts for my almost-3 year old, I stumbled across this link while shopping online: www.stridersports.com
What’s the big deal? Well, if you have a child under age five, listen up, because this may be the most interesting concept I’ve ever heard as far as bike riding goes. Strider Sports produces a nifty little bike they call a pre-bike and get this: it has no pedals. What? Crazy! But the whole thing is based upon teaching your child balance and control before they have to figure out how to pedal the bike. Read More
Day Trip Idea: Great Wolf Lodge
By Rachel Hoeing
Anyone else in the mood to go someplace warm? This may be the next best thing...
First of all, I guess I need to preface that Great Wolf Lodge is not really a one day trip. It is a one night trip, which includes two days of fun at the waterpark! In other words, when you purchase a night at the lodge, your family gets waterpark passes for most of the day prior to and the entire day after your night's stay.
My family visited the Great Wolf Lodge in April, when our children were 4 and 6. Both can swim fairly well, but it was not a problem finding things to do! Swimmers and non-swimmers will not be at a loss! Read More

Recycle Your Holiday

There are lots of other things you might normally dispose of that can easily be recycled and/or used again next year. Here are some ideas on how you can recycle your holiday... Read More

As much as I'd love to tell you I'm ready for Christmas, I'm not, and one way that I procrastinate is to plan other things. Doesn't that sound weird? Stay with me...when there's too much going on, I start making lists. Things that I can do pretty quickly (with obvious results) happen first, and that helps me get settled enough to go back to the hard stuff. The lists themselves are my top choice, but those go quickly, so here's another favorite - laundry. There's a definite start, a definite end, and you have a big stack of clean clothes at the finish. (Same with ironing, although that's not as much fun.) Read More
Saving Memories in a Snap
By Katie Moosbrugger
I am so embarrassed to admit this, but I have yet to create a photo album of my children (ages two and five). It's like I am photographically challenged. I own a nice digital camera, yet I am forever forgetting to bring it places! If it weren't for my husband, we would be seriously hurting in the photo department. Luckily, he reminds me often - and once I have my camera in hand - I actually enjoy snapping shots. So we do have a lot of pictures of our kids, thankfully.
And it's not just forgetting the camera. It's the downloading and printing that really stops me in my tracks. More than anything else, I think it has to do with finding the time to do it. I cringe at the thought of sitting down to download and organize photos. Therefore, I always have a million pictures stored on my camera at any given time. And when I do finally download, organize and print these pictures out, it's a JOB (which can get pricey too)! Thankfully, I've figured out a way - and a source - that helps me do it in a snap and for a relatively low price. My source: www.Snapfish.com. Read More

Why I Got Involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters
By Guest Blogger Anitra Mitchell
I asked Anitra to write this blog about her experiences with Big Brothers/Big Sisters after Rachel H and I were invited to a BB/BS luncheon. I knew little about BB/BS at the time, and was amazed to learn so much about this wonderful organization, the parents who give so much of their time and love, and all the incredible "little brothers and sisters." I also had no idea Anitra and her family were involved as "Bigs" before attending this luncheon and discovering her husband is the president of the local BB/BS chapter. Anitra and her husband, Brad, have two beautiful boys: Cooper (age 5) and Turner (age one), and one amazing "little brother" Steven. I hope you enjoy their story. - KM Read More
