All moms deserve recognition just for being incredible people! Here at Triangle Moms On Main, we want to highlight local moms and give them the props they deserve. Meet these extraordinary women who are making a difference in the lives of their families, friends, strangers, and the community. They might be movers, shakers, entrepreneurs, athletes, volunteers, or caregivers, but most importantly … they are moms!
For a look back at all of our moms on the move, click here...we've featured some great women!
Julia Beam
As an elementary school teacher, Julia Beam has always focused on providing the best learning environment for her students. As a mom, she has struggled with seeing children enter her kindergarten class who would have been better prepared with a stronger preschool basis. As a mom on the move, she is taking action!Julia has been teaching in the Wake County Public School System since 1996. In her own words: “I love young children. I love teaching them. I love being trusted with that responsibility. I love to teach a child to read. It is one of the most important parts of my job.” Her passion for education has led her to start her own business in order to support parents and children in the learning process. “Having my own pre-school, I will ensure that I and all the teachers are truly making the best educational decisions for all students who attend Grow Preschool.”
Grow Preschool will provide a preschool environment that allows for children to experience learning that is developmentally appropriate - and fun - with a focus on the pre-reading skills necessary to be successful in kindergarten and life. Julia intends to instill a life-long love of learning, reading, and books in each of her students at Grow Preschool. “I want children to be excited about learning and reading,” she told us. Don’t we all?
Grow Preschool is located at 115 Commerce Street in Apex. To learn more, Grow is hosting free information sessions on Wednesday nights in January at 7pm. Preschool Registration will be Monday, January, 23, 2012 and Friday, February 10 at 10:00am both days. Julia is starting Grow so area moms will not have to struggle with difficult developmental education decisions. At Grow Preschool, you will find curriculum, communication, and caring. (You will have 4 hours of your own on preschool days!) Julia and her staff can’t wait to Grow with you! For more information, contact Grow Preschool at 247-9537.
Kile Law
In addition to working in a serene environment, Kile employs a group of, in her words, “women who have high standards and who are brilliant, kind, gorgeous and fun to work with.” No wonder Blue Water Spa has been voted Best Place to Work in the Triangle! Kile has been able to afford her employees the flexible scheduling that all moms need, and enjoys it herself. The only downside? “The spa music. It is very relaxing, but five hours a day is a bit much.” (lol!)
As a business leader in our community, Kile works hard to give back. She explained to TMOM, “Giving to others is one way that I hope to leave a lasting positive impact on the world, and a way in which I hope to make my children proud.” This year, Blue Water Spa has donated $108,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County. This incredible amount was raised through client donations since the start of 2011, in exchange for discounted spa services. In 2010, Blue Water Spa and its clients donated 100,000 pounds of food to the Interfaith Food Shuttle of NC.
In 2012, Kile hopes Blue Water Spa can do something equally important for our local charities. Blue Water Spa features monthly specials on their website, making it easy for clients to both give and save. As a mom, Kile encourages other mothers to find balance, and to take time for themselves so they can give more effectively to others. That sounds like a great New Year’s resolution, doesn’t it?
Leigh Ann Miller
Leigh Ann Miller’s primary job is being a wife and mommy to her two little girls. A natural part of parenting for Leigh Ann is saving money, or in her words, being a deal seeker. Luckily, she shares her tips on the Western Wake Wallet Savers website that she started in September 2010. As she told TMOM, “It seemed like people were always asking me ‘how did you find out about that?’ I try to only include deals that you can get locally - like get in your car and drive there. I especially like to highlight sales or deals I've found at local businesses in the area. I also love when a reader sees a deal and emails to let me know about it!”In addition to saving local moms time and money, Leigh Ann also does all of the marketing for MealBaby, started by a friend of hers in 2008. MealBaby is a free, online service that allows people to organize a meal calendar to help others in need - such as when a new baby is born, following surgery, during extended illness, relocation, job loss, or the grief of losing a loved one. Leigh Ann’s role allows enough flexibility to focus on her family, working according to her own schedule.
What is Leigh Ann’s favorite part about being a mom-preneur? “I love that my work with Western Wake Wallet Savers and MealBaby are both helping to somehow make life easier for others - whether that's saving them a few of their hard earned dollars or making it so they can receive help (or help others) when they need it most.” On the flip side, she sometimes wishes for more time to be creative and expand her businesses. For now, though, Leigh Ann is content to keep a healthy and happy balance between her family and work life.
In 2012, Leigh Ann is planning giveaways on both the Western Wake Wallet Savers blog and the MealBaby blog. Be sure to keep an eye out on both blogs, and on their Facebook pages! She is also a great role model for parents and does a great job partnering with them to create the most effective developmental/educational plan for each child. She is one of those women you admire and wonder, 'how does she know all of this?' Congratulations
and wishing you much success!!!
