September has so many events that we decided to provide a mid-month update. As you may know, we like to feature a community bulletin board for causes near and dear to our readers' hearts. There are some excellent events coming up throughout the Triangle area...check them out! The events are listed in chronological order...Thanks in advance for your support.


SPARKcon
Thursday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 16 in Downtown Raleigh (various locations)
SPARKcon is a showcase of creativity, talent and ideas of “The Creative Hub of the South,” the Triangle of NC. SPARKcon was founded in 2006 by Beth and Aly Khalifa and Designbox to showcase, celebrate and influence the creative momentum of the Triangle region of North Carolina. SPARKcon uses an open-source organizational approach to empower diverse creative thinkers to be inspiring community leaders.

SPARKcon is a  program of Visual Art Exchange, a Raleigh non-profit whose mission is to support emerging artists and connect the community to the arts.


Public Safety Day
Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10am - 2pm at Leesville Road High School, Raleigh
Come on out to the 16th Annual Public Safety day and Community blood drive, sponsored by the Durham Highway Fire Department (Norwood Rd, Raleigh). Our goal is 30 donors, so click here to sign up and reserve your appointment time on the Rex Healthcare Bloodmobile. Meet our new station dalmation, explore fire and police vehicles, and see medical helicopter and other equipment demonstrations. A fun, educational day! 


Club Horizon's 6th Annual Silent Auction "Tastes and Treasures" event
Friday, Sept. 21 6:00pm at the Junior League of Raleigh Headquarters
Come out and celebrate a worthy cause while scoring great deals at the 6th Annual Club Horizon's "Tastes and Treasures" Silent Auction on at the Junior League of Raleigh, 711 Hillsborough Street. Click here for more information or to buy tickets.

Club Horizon exists to provide a community with a restorative environment for persons living with and recovering from severe and persistent mental illness.


8th Annual Ray Price Capital City Bikefest
Friday, Sept. 21 8:00am at Ray Price, Inc., Downtown Raleigh
The Ray Price Capital City Bikefest is an annual festival in downtown Raleigh. The family-friendly event features live music & entertainment, food, vendors, shows, exhibits, and thousands of motorcycles!


Raleigh Mompreneurs presents ILLUMINATE
Sept. 22, starting at 8:30am, Raleigh
Illuminate is a unique combination of education and networking for Triangle area Mompreneurs. Wine and Design Raleigh will host this event at 219 Bickett Blvd. Check in is at  8:30am and the event runs until 1:00pm (networking may go longer). Raleigh Mompreneurs is a place to network, market, and get advice. We are here to encourage and support one another as we strive to balance our family and work. Our group is about getting together to learn and grow personally and professionally in a collaborative environment.

Touch a Truck, sponsored by Cary Pilot Club
Sunday, Sept. 23 11:00am at the J.S. Dorton Arena, NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh
Children will be able to beep the horns, flash the lights and meet the super hero drivers of their favorite vehicles!

Pilot Club of Cary is a nonprofit raising money for brain related disorders and injuries.



Triangle Breakfast Club - Volunteering for Food Shuttle and Social
Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6:00pm, Inter-faith Food Shuttle, Raleigh
Did you know there are 91,000 children on free and reduced lunch in the Triangle area? BackPack Buddies is a program run by the Inter-faith Food Shuttle, which attacks hunger in seven Triangle counties. Sixteen volunteer slots are available but everyone is invited to the social and monthly meeting at Ciago's from 7:15 - 8:30pm. Click here for more information.


2012 Scrub Run & Fun Fest to benefit WakeMed Children's
Saturday, Sept 29 from 8:30am - noon
City Plaza, Fayetteville Street, Downtown Raleigh
Second annual 5K, 10K and Fun Fest to support WakeMed Children's. Enjoy live music, games and activities, as well as a 100-yard kid's dash. Course maps and more information are available online. Mark your calendars and register today!

*If you are new to running or want to improve performance, take advantage of WakeMed's free running clinics. Both are offered Saturday, September 15 at one of two locations: Alexander Family YMCA in Raleigh or WakeMed North Healthplex in N. Raleigh.*  


Football 101 Clinic (just for Moms!)
Saturdays: Sept 29, Oct 6, Oct 13 at the Alexander Family YMCA, Raleigh
This fall, the Y is offering Football 101 Clinic for Moms. This fun, moms-only clinic will help you develop a fundamental understanding of football in an inviting, relaxed environment. Join other moms just like you to learn a working vocabulary of the rules so you can “talk shop” with your kids, family and friends during football season. The clinic also provides basic hands-on experience with the plays so you can practice (or just toss the ball) with your kids or friends.

Clinics are held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. We welcome you to attend as many clinics as fit your schedule. This is a free clinic with free childcare provided. Monster Mania at Barnes & Noble
September 29, 10:30am - 2pm, Southpoint Mall, Durham
Durham Parnership for Children is hosting Monster Mania, a family event featuring celebrity story time at 10:30am, plus crafts, contests, and book giveaways until 2pm. A portion of all purchases will go directly to the Partnership, who will provide books for local children in need. Visit the DPFC website for more information.


Second Annual Pink Shamrock 5K and Street Party
September 29, starting at 4pm, Raleigh
The Hibernian Restaurant and Pub is proud to host the Pink Shamrock 5K in Historic Glenwood South and Cameron Park areas of Raleigh. This event benefitting 1in9 is an afternoon race that will take the same USATF-Certified 5K route as last year’s race, and will be followed by a street party with music, food, and beverages, along with a presentation to the winner of this year’s Hibernian Cup. Proceeds will be donated to 1in9, a breast cancer charity that works closely with UNCs Comprehensive Cancer Center to help women who are currently in treatment but lack the means necessary to continue it.

Kick Up Your Heels
Saturday, Sept. 29, 7pm - 9pm at A Southern Season, Chapel Hill
The Pink Pacers hope you will join us on Sept. 30 from 7-9pm for food, wine and special guest speakers to benefit the UNC Lineberger Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic. Tickets are $10 and include a sampling of A Southern Season’s delicious food and wine, along with several local Tarheels (Eric Montross, Jones Angell, and cancer survivor Chase Jones). 2012 Triangle Heartwalk to support the American Heart Association

2012 Triangle Run Walk for Autism
Saturday, Oct 13 at 9:00am, Moore Square Park, Raleigh
This 5k competitive run and 1 mile fun run/walk will raise money for the Autism Society of North Carolina. To learn more and register online, click here.

The Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC) provides support and promotes opportunities that enhance the lives of individuals within the autism spectrum and their families.



Get Heeled 5K
Saturday, Oct. 13 at 9:00am, the Friday Center, Chapel Hill
Meet at 9:00am for the Get Heeled 5K, dedicated to supporting active living, community outreach and families affected by cancer. This year, 100% of the event proceeds will be given to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center's Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic to assist with Family Support Services.

Harvest Day Festival

Duke Medicine Ramblin Rose

The Paint It Pink Gala
